Tooth Talk Resource Spotlight: Caring for Our Children-National Health and Safety Performance Standards: Guidelines for Out-of-Home Child Care Programs

We like that this comprehensive website contains the entire updated Third Edition of the guidelines, including a link to the Special Collection – Oral Health in Child Care and Early Education.

The easy-to-navigate format begins with the topic, then lists the standard, rationale (evidence), comments, type of facility where the activity is appropriate, and more. There’s even an FAQ icon beside the topic! This helpful online edition contains a database of current standards that are updated as needed. What a great resource for health coordinators and childcare health consultants!

Caring for Our Children is a joint project of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Public Health Association and the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education, with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Its mission is to improve the quality of child care and early education programs by supporting child care providers and early educators, families, health professionals, early childhood comprehensive systems, state child care regulatory agencies, state and local health departments, and policy makers in their efforts to identify and promote healthy and safe child care and early education programs.

These Guidelines are just one of the excellent resources we’ve listed. Check out links to other vital resources you can use in your job by clicking here.
