Parents Speak Out About Kids’ Healthy Teeth in a New Tooth Talk Video

Did you know…

According to a North Carolina study published in the American Journal of Public Health, kids with poor oral health were nearly 3 times more likely to miss school because of dental pain?

This fact matches national statistics: Parents Magazine reported on a national study that found as many as 4 million preschoolers suffer from tooth decay, up more than half a million in the last 10 years.

The good news is parents are getting the message about healthy dental habits, says a November 2013 study by the Ad Council as part of the Kids’ Healthy Mouth Campaign. This campaign was launched in collaboration with Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives, a coalition of the leading organizations in the field of dental health.

The study found that, after the launch of the campaign, significantly more parents reported that their children brush at least twice a day:

  • 55 percent of English-speaking parents
  • 77 percent of Spanish-speaking parents

The study also found that more parents said their children were brushing for at least two minutes each time:

  • 64 percent of English-speaking parents
  • 77 percent of Spanish-speaking parents

Studies like this one prove that parents are open to conversations about good oral health for their children. Learn how NC parents feel about their children’s smiles in the new, short Tooth Talk video:
