NC Toothbrushing Guidelines for Child Care Programs: Infant/Toddler and Preschool Classrooms
Child care staff are key partners with parents in keeping young children’s teeth healthy. The new Guidelines for Toothbrushing in North Carolina Child Care Programs will help you do your job smarter, faster, easier, and better.
The new Guidelines, in both English and Spanish, were developed with input from the State of North Carolina Children’s Environmental Health Sanitation Unit.
The Guidelines explain the clear and easy steps to good toothbrushing in child care programs for both infant/toddler and preschool classrooms:
- preparing to brush,
- brushing,
- and cleaning up after brushing.
The Guidelines also feature:
- State sanitation recommendations,
- the correct amount of good-for-kids fluoride toothpaste by age group,
- and helpful hints about toothbrushes, fluoride toothpaste, positioning very young children for brushing, and how to make brushing fun!
The NC Guidelines are part of the Brushing Is Fun! project, a collaboration of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the NC Division of Public Health Oral Health Section, funded by The Duke Endowment.
