Tooth Talk Highlights Your Best Practices for Kids’ Dental Health

Did you know…US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report child tooth decay is worsening; cavities among preschool children are increasing for the first time in 40 years.

Did you also know that your toothbrushing program makes a big difference in improving kids’ dental health? Thanks for all you do to promote healthy oral health habits in children. Following are some best practices you shared with Tooth Talk.

What makes your toothbrushing program a success?

“For the children in our program who are brushing their own teeth with our guidance, we put a pea-sized amount of toothpaste in a small cup. After brushing, the children use the cup to rinse.”

“Our children brush their teeth after lunch each day and the teachers wipe babies’ mouths after bottle feedings.”

“Not only do we send information home to parents, we also send toothbrushes and toothpaste home to help the family and encourage parents and children to brush.”

“Because of the toothbrushing program in our center, fewer children need extensive dental treatment.”

“The teachers help children brush their teeth in the classroom. They use a tiny dab of fluoride toothpaste.”
