Want to Protect Children’s Teeth? This New Tool Can Help!

In February, show your love for children’s good oral health!  It’s National Children’s Dental Health Month and the perfect time to encourage parents and caregivers to check those tiny teeth. Not sure where to start? That’s OK! Your friends at ToothTalk have you covered. Your Child Can Keep That Healthy Smile, a brand-new oral health risk assessment tool created by the North Carolina Oral Health Section, is designed especially for parents and caregivers.

This colorful, engaging form starts with a series of easy Yes/No questions to determine a child’s risk for tooth decay. There’s even a short checklist of symptoms and issues children may experience because of common oral health problems. The tool also provides basic facts and smart tips families can use to build healthy smiles, including a helpful picture of the right amount of safe and healthy fluoride toothpaste to use for infants and toddlers. This new tool’s purpose is to give parents the information they need when partnering with their child’s medical and dental team to achieve their child’s best oral and overall health.

Remind families that their babies need to go to the dentist by their first birthday. No dentist? No problem! This new tool covers all the bases and provides parents and caregivers with information on how to connect with a Medicaid dental provider in their area.

Click to download this useful, simple form and give families something to smile about: their children’s healthy teeth!
