8 Things You DON’T Want to Do to a Toothbrush

While the average toothbrush costs just pennies a day, this humble tool provides priceless benefits to young children. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste protects teeth, which helps little ones eat and grow (so they can reach those important developmental milestones), speak, learn, play, feel good about themselves and, of course, smile.

Show the humble toothbrush some love: Take good care of them so they can take good care of little mouths!

You’ll want to share these 8 Toothbrush Don’ts from Tooth Talk with parents in your program:

DON’T share a toothbrush.
DON’T cover a toothbrush; let it air-dry instead.
DON’T lay a toothbrush down on a counter or sink to dry; stand it upright in a cup or holder.
DON’T buy a toothbrush sterilization/sanitizing system; they don’t provide a health benefit.
DON’T put a toothbrush in the dishwasher or spray with disinfectant to clean it.
DON’T store a toothbrush so its bristles touch another brush’s bristles; keep the heads separate.
DON’T keep using an old, worn-out toothbrush.
DON’T use your toothbrush to clean your goldfish’s teeth!
